Interest rates slashed

The bank of England has today slashed rates by 1.5%. The current borrowing rate has been reduced to 3%. Cheltenham and Gloucester have said they will pass the rate on in full to clients on a standard variable rate mortgage while other lenders are considering their position.
Promotional Fortnight
Following the success of a home selling scheme at the Bradley Stoke branch of leading Bristol estate agent, Ocean Home, their branches are running a special promotion for the next fortnight to encourage sales activity in the run up to Christmas. Every seller on Ocean’s books have been contacted and asked what the lowest price they would accept from a cash buyer would be. Investment in Bristol
The Ministry Of Defence has announced that it will be expanding its operations in Bristol and moving jobs to an enlarged Abbey Wood. The total number of staff at the site will increase from 6,000 to more than 10,000.

House price to rise by 25%
The average house price in England will rise by 25 per cent over the next five years to reach £274,700, despite fears of a housing market crash – according to a new report published today by the National Housing Federation.
The document – researched by independent economists Oxford Economics – forecasts that house prices will fall in 2009, start to recover in 2010, and then rapidly increase from 2011.
The paper, entitled Home Truths 2008, says that house prices will increase by:
5.2 per cent in 2011
9.2 per cent in 2012, and
9.3 per cent in 2013 – with the typical price at the end of the period being well above the average in 2007 of £222,600.
In the short to mid term, it says house prices will:
Fall by 2.1 per cent in 2009, and
Increase by 1.3 per cent in 2010.
The report also states that while demand is growing, supply of new housing is falling, with only 75 per cent of the new homes required being built each year.

Ocean Property Lawyers Moving home

Ocean Property Lawyers, a sister company of Bristol's leading independent estate agent, Ocean Home, has aquired new premises on the Gloucester Road, next door to the estate agency. The lawyers who, on average help 1000 people a year move home, have given up their old premises on the Gloucester Road and have taken up residence in new, larger, state of the art offices at number 199 Gloucester Road. Jon Aldous, director, says "due to our increasing workload and to allow us to offer more services such as Home Information Packs, we have invested heavily in a once derelict building, giving it the Ocean treatment. We now can accommodate our larger team and have dedicated meeting rooms for our clients plus a Home Information Pack processing centre." Ocean are also pleased to announce that Kirstie Wilkins has been promoted to director of the conveyancing company, having worked within the Ocean group for 12 years.
Negotiator of the Year
Following the end of ocean home's financial year, it is with great pleasure that we can announce the Negotiator Of The Year for 2006/2007 is Jake Grady. Jake has had a wonderful year at our Filton office, excelling in all departments. With this in mind Jake has recently been promoted to be one of newest Branch Managers, taking control of our successful Bradley Stoke office. Buyers camp overnight to secure flats
The much anticipated launch of the landmark Robinson Building in BS3 took place on the 29th September. The development which consistes of 100 flats attracted overnight campers hoping to put deposits on the best units. Bristol is top city for home movers
Bristol has been named as the most popular destination for prospective homebuyers, according to research by email4property.co.uk. The city has recieved more interest than any other destination in the UK. Records taken from their site over the past six months have shown that Bristol, on average, has received over 10,000 more online searches for property each month than any other city.
A large number of young professionals are now either choosing to move to the city, or opting to stay after university to take advantage of the thriving local economy and opportunities within the many financial, technical and creative industrys.
Ocean rodaway
ocean have bought fellow independent estate agent Rodaway & Son.
The addition of the Rodaway business brings ocean’s total number of Branches to ten, including the legal and the letting and management divisions and makes Ocean one of the largest independents in Bristol.
Rodaway’s staff have joined ocean, bringing the total number of ocean staff to over 100. Nicky Rodaway said, “We have known Paul Harris and ocean for very many years and I believe we share the same commitment to high standards and customer service. We feel very comfortable leaving the business in their capable hands”.
